Meeting Notes (Friday, 1/30/09) ----------------------------------------- In Attendance: Ryan DKL Bruce Nick Anna Felix Emily Ted Arjun Freeson Terry (Brown) Terry (Boyd) Benji (new!!!!) Ted (new; one meeting last semester) ----------------------------------------- 5:30pm ----------------------------------------- Ryan started the meeting with discussion of change of Film Fest venue to be a "bike-in" on either the CMU Cut or Flagstaff Hill. He apparently did some research and found out CMUTV might be willing to help out with projection, etc. We still need to find something for the sound, though (AB?). Some drawbacks to this approach discussed: difficulty charging, where will people sit?, Flagstaff requires city permission. Ryan asked if anyone saw any cool movies recently. Brief discussion of Repo! The Genetic Opera. Status of judges....? Need to ask people at Filmmakers, CMU, etc. Possibility of some new drama teacher opening festival? To Do: - Contact AB Tech about sound for festival Ryan thanked everyone for coming to the shoot last Saturday and asked for opinions on how it went. Most people said it went well. He apologized for what seemed like down time during filming with sound (people had to be quiet, might have been boring). Felix worked some magic and the new Super8 camera worked for a second, but then stopped working in Ryan's hands. Hilarious! Ryan asked if other people wanted to learn more about film. People want to learn more about film! Ryan asked what specific questions people would like to have answered. DKL asked some question about lighting and exposure and Ryan began and answer about f-stops and stuff. Depth-of-field also briefly discussed. Terry dropped in at this point. James drew and showed some retarded diagram about depth-of-field. Ryan explained zooming in to focus. Then we moved on to white-balance for video. Protip: if you use auto-settings and move the shot around a lot, it might look crappy. Moving on, Feb. 7 was set as a deadline for the preparation of some stuff for the Film Festival, including the creation of a separate website. Some discussion of whether there should be a separate domain for the site. Freeson and James wanted it to be shorter and more memorable than our standard club site's domain. Film Fest committee possible divisions: - God Ryan - Flyer Master (off-campus/Downtown,Lawrenceville) - Trailer for Festival (graphics, etc.) - Directing/Producing James - Trailer for Festival (graphics, etc.) DKL - Finance Bruce Nick Emily - Approaching local businesses Terry Brown - Approaching local businesses - Advertising Emily Terry Nick Felix - Cover letter for financial sponsor proposals; - Press release Anna - Flyer Master (off-campus/Oakland) Arjun - Flyer Master (on-campus) Freeson - Trailer for YouTube? During lots of ridiculous discussion, a new guy walked in. His name is Benji. Ryan sure likes yelling out "FIRE!" in a voice like "Fi-yurrr!" Freeson mentioned SIGGRAPH is accepting volunteers. Also wants Don to give up the master login/password for the site so we can modify it. Meeting effectively adjourned at 6:35.
