Hey, everyone. As usual, I’m putting up my notes from the meeting. Also, be sure to check back soon for the final, official version of the Student Government commercial, which will be posted as soon as the new dialogue is added to the uncompressed version of the content. Till then, stay frosty.

Viral Videos

Monday, October 27th, 2008

This week, Film Club held a meeting on Monday (10/27) night to discuss Freeson’s idea of creating a series of viral videos to promote the Student Film Festival and the club in general. Our fearless president was absent from the meeting, but somehow the other members soldiered on. The merits of various proposals were discussed and members gave their input on what the overall direction of this project should be. The general theme of the project, suggested by Freeson, is that of “several students hacking the campus network and posting all the embarrassing videos that they find.” Towards the end of the meeting, some specific ideas for the videos themselves were proposed, but no official consensus was reached on what to produce video of the series. As of now, there are still plans to meet on Thursday to produce one of the aforementioned videos.

In other news, our website is currently undergoing a revitalization! New content should be coming online more often than in the past, so check back on a regular (or irregular) basis to see new goodies and to keep abreast of all things Film Club. In fact, there will apparently soon be a new bulletin board system added to the site…

Films for Filmmakers series

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008

Last night, we launched our new Films for Filmmakers series. The film was The Five Obstructions by Lars von Trier and Jorgen Leth. We turned the film club into a microcinema for the evening to watch Danish director Lars von Trier
attempt to psychoanalyze his hero, filmmaker Jorgen Leth by challenging him to remake an experimental film from the 60’s five times. Each time, von Trier gave some set of obstructions to overcome. It’s a really inspiring movie, especially for young filmmakers who face obstructions from limited resources every time they start a new project. The film shows how creativity can flourish under constraint.

We will be continuing this series every other Monday at 8:00. The details of the next showing are as follows:

Krystof Kieslowski’s Camera Buff, 8:00pm Feb 18, at the Film Club

Come and bring a friend. All are welcome.
