Here’s a link to a great article the New Yorker did on James Cameron, and talks a bit about his new movie, Avatar. Its a bit long, but anyone should read the first few pages for some insight on how James Cameron is James Cameron.

Dolly System Construction

October 3rd, 2009 by DKL

At the meeting we talked about making our own dolly system, and save over $800 doing so. Below are links to some sites I found about making our own. Most likely we’ll construct a PVC pipe one for now.

Pitch Day Results

September 29th, 2009 by DKL

Quick Summary of the results of Pitch Day:
The chosen project of filmclub will be Istvan’s Sitcom pitch, Plan/Scam.
Three runners up which we will also give some support to are:
Benji’s “Toothfairy”
Felix’s “Morning After” short
and Stefan’s “Stan’s Algorithm” once he finishes the script for that again.

Great pitches everyone! I hope to see all of them made at some point.

5pm Meeting

September 11th, 2009 by DKL
Film club meeting 5pm today (Friday). Make every effort to show, as we’ll be creating the groups for improv shootings for the weekend (as well as what time).
Reminder that Pitch day is September 25th. So if you got a project idea kicking around, stop kicking it and write it up!
In other news, the proboards site will from now on be updated with meeting minutes by every Monday night following a regular meeting. You can get to the proboards site via our main page, cmufilmmakingclub.com. Just select “Boards” at the top to be redirected. There you can view old news and new news, and you can feel free to post a script there for anyone to read and comment (create a login name first though, so you don’t appear as “guest”).
See you at the club!

Support Democracy!

May 1st, 2009 by James

Film Club meeting today at 4:30pm — be there or be square. We’ll elect officers for next year, so if you want the power, you must arrive at the hour. Also, we probably still have a lot of snacks left over from the film fest, so there’ll be food. Oh yeah, and it’s my last film club meeting ever, so I’m gonna need people to hold me.

Film Festival ‘09: The hour is nigh…

April 22nd, 2009 by James

Rack Focus Film Festival
Greetings, all. Sorry for the lack of updates for a couple weeks there (and also for the lack of meeting notes — very sad). At any rate, as you all (should) know by now, the 16th Annual CMU Student Film Festival (aka Rack Focus 2009) is this Friday, April 24 at 7:00PM! Tell your friends! Tell your family! Tell strangers! In case you’ve been absent from club meetings for a (really) long time, the festival is outdoors this year on the CFA Lawn. Also, if you haven’t already put up some of our awesome posters for the event (which just came in yesterday), please go get some and do so! Publicize the hell outta this thing. More details to follow shortly.

Film Club, ASSEMBLE!!!

March 27th, 2009 by James

By now you should know that there’s a meeting today (Friday, March 27) at 4:30pm at the club. We will be discussing a lot of Film Festival business and we will also be distributing flyers around campus again. Also, there are film shoots taking place this weekend, including Saturday (DKL) and Sunday (James), so if you’re hankerin’ for some filmmaking, be sure and show up!
